80s was the era of Doordarshan..
The 80s was the era of Doordarshan with soaps like Hum Log, Buniyaad and comedy shows like Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi which made Doordarshan a household name. Circus, Gul Gulshan Gulfam and Nukkad are some of the serials that come instantly to my mind when I think of the good old days of Doordarshan. Those were phenomenal days when people gathered in crowds to watch the telecast of these serials. The characters of Ramayan and Mahabharat were almost worshiped like God and Goddess throughout the country.

A Big Thanks To You for the initiative.. Would be joy sharing memories, comments and ideas. Why start with fears of negativity? I personally don't think there was so much wrong with DD over my 24 yrs. of service before I took voluntary retirement. There is much more decay (pardon my current DDwallas/friends (no malice there!), than there was back then. In a wider perspective - DD made history and is a repository of Indian culture, exclusive material and treasure trove of memories. Let's remember with joy rather than rancour!!!!

Mukeshji, I have tons to talk and tell...only am not as Net savvy as you. I was part of the fitst HUMLOG too as Dr. Anita Kapoor ( 4 episodes)...bahut yaadein hain....the 7th episode was shot first when Mr. Satish Garg asked me to do it as they wanted someone who was camera savvy and slick. The change from the Black n white era...I was the first to face the Nation as DD went LIVe and in Colour on 15th Aug 1982....What all can I send you and how at the email add you have given? I shall be in Mumbai 15th-16th April...

A precursor to the boom television industry is engulf in. Perhaps few would recall how it launched and nurtured talents now ensconced as iconic figures in electronic world. While most eulogize the faces it portrayed but few realize that it had its own brands of a la Yash Chopra or a Raj Kapoor !! More than anyone it was the quality of its Managers which spotted talents, produced with minimal hardware support, shoestring payments (could be termed pathetic looking at huge payoffs now),a negligible training regime - yet it gave the industry names and faces, who have not looked back even ! DD deserves all encomium for creating footmarks which besides entertainment has created opportunities for thousands.......Well, it certainly was an era !
